Ethical Statement
Funeral Plans Online is firmly committed to its ethical
beliefs. These are the things that we do to put those beliefs into practice –
We have the highest regard for the security of the money that you pay to us for
your funeral plan. To achieve this, we have done the following:
All your payments are made directly to the Ethical Funeral
Plans Trust – a separate Trust Fund under independent control of
Trustees, who themselves are governed by Trust law. (The only amount that Funeral
Plans Online receives – from the Trust – is the administration
charge shown in the breakdown of your funeral plan costs.)
The only ways in which the Trustees will release your funeral funds are either
to pay your funeral director after proof has been provided that your funeral
has been carried out or to make you a refund (see
Terms and Conditions) if you decide to cancel your plan.
The funds that you pay us towards your funeral costs are managed by the trustees
of the Ethical Funeral Plans Trust. They are committed to
investing those funds ethically in so far as they able to ensure prudent and
secure investment. Funeral Plans Online is the only
funeral planning company that makes this commitment.
At present, the Ethical Investment Policy means that no funds are invested in
industries involved in armaments, tobacco, alcohol, gambling, human rights
abuses, or pornography. The policy is under regular review and new, more
exacting criteria, will be added as funds allow.
We believe that if you are going to be able to make informed choices about your
funeral plan, you need to be aware of the cost implications of your choices.
That is why we put the price against each option that carries an additional
charge.
We only want you to buy a funeral plan from us if you’re sure that that’s what
you want to do. We promise never to put pressure on you, or otherwise cajole
you, to purchase a funeral plan. In fact, we would encourage everyone
considering buying a funeral plan to take the time to talk the idea through
with their family. Then, when you’re ready, send your cheque payment, or
standing order form, to us.
Unfortunately, because prices are always going up, if you do design a plan of
your own, and save it, but don’t buy it at that stage, we will need to re-price
your plan after 40 days, using prices for the components in force at that time.
But in most cases, this will either not effect the price at all or only make a
small change, especially if you are returning to the website only a short while
beyond the 40 days.
We don’t want to hide our terms and conditions in obscure language. We believe
that they are fair and we want you to understand them. And so we have tried to
write them as clearly as possible.
